Fujitsu Siemens verbetert Primergy-server TX 120 S2
Just in time for this year’s CeBIT, Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) has announced the newest generation of their compact-size server model: The TX 120 S2 is supposed to undercut its predecessor both in terms of energy consumption and noise emission and thereby meet the Energy Star 4.0 requirements as outlined by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
The new machine will be available in two configurations, one of them equipped with Intel’s P8400 Core™2 Duo processor running at a speed of 2.26 GHz with a 3 MB L2 cache, the other with its sibling T9400 (2.53 GHz, 6 MB). Both will be using the Intel 5100 MCH chipset with I/O-controller ICH9R, commonly known as “’San Clemente”. This architecture allows for even lower energy consumption than the predecessors had to offer: unlike the previously used Xeons, which required a maximum TDP of 65 watts, the Core 2 Duos can get by on 35 watts (T9400) or 25 watts (P8400). This makes for a total power consumption of 120 watts for the maximum configuration – almost one third less than the “first generation TX 120”. As a pleasant side effect, noise emissions will also be reduced; currently, FSC aims for 28 dB in operation mode, which is somewhere between a whisper and the buzz of a refrigerator. That way, the TX 120 S2 will even be suitable for use within the office.
